Laboratory Efficiency
A laboratory isn't a building. It's an arrangement with reality.
In short: Your laboratory decides how strongly research lands on a given island.
- Full effect: laboratory meets the research's prerequisite level
- Half effect: laboratory present, but below the threshold
- Minimal effect: no laboratory, destroyed in an attack, or never built
How the laboratory scales #
From v0.35 research is stored globally. The effect on an individual island is gated by the laboratory there. Three tiers:
- Full effect — the laboratory is at least at the level the research lists as prerequisite. The island gets the full bonus.
- Half effect — laboratory present, but below the prerequisite threshold. The island gets roughly half the global effect.
- Minimal effect — laboratory destroyed in combat or never built. A small residue remains — global research isn't lost — but the island isn't a useful research seat.
Recovery bonus #
If your laboratory takes damage in a fight, a seven-day recovery bonus kicks in: rebuild time is halved. Visible at the top of the research overview. The bonus only applies to the laboratory itself — other buildings rebuild at normal speed.
Strategy #
- One research island — usually it pays off to keep one strong laboratory rather than mid-level laboratories on several islands
- Read the prerequisite — if you plan a late research, build the laboratory high enough first; otherwise the bonus stays stuck at half effect
- Lab loss isn't the end — the recovery bonus shortens repair, use it actively
