Battle Chronicles
"What the sea will not tell, the captain writes down."
— From the logbook of an old bastion
Summary: Publish your combat reports as public chronicles. Stories of victory and defeat become readable for anyone — and they carry your island's name out into the world.
What is a Battle Chronicle? #
After every battle you receive a report in your inbox. These reports are private — only you and your opponent see them. If you want to, you can turn one into a public chronicle: a page with its own address, readable by anyone on the web — even people without an account.
A chronicle contains:
- The headline details of the battle (who fought whom, where, when, and how it ended).
- Your own commentary on the battle — written in your words, in your language.
- An automatically generated title that captures the character of the engagement (decisive victory, heroic defense, narrow escape, glorious last stand).
Why publish a chronicle? #
Chronicles are the legacy of your captain's career. They are:
- Readable by anyone — you can send the link to friends, post it in forums, or share it on social networks.
- Word-of-mouth for the world — new players often discover Kampfinsel through chronicles like these. Whoever reads your battle today could be a captain tomorrow.
- A keepsake of your finest hours — an improbable defeat, a narrow victory, a cunning colonization run. Chronicles preserve those moments.
How to publish a chronicle #
The share section appears at the bottom of your report page, below the battle phases. Tapping or clicking the share button opens your device's native sharing interface — on mobile as a system sheet, on desktop as a copy action. A chronicle is created silently in the background if one doesn't exist yet. If you want more control, you'll find additional options below the button: you can add a written commentary (writeup) to the chronicle before sharing.
Player names in chronicles #
When you publish a chronicle, both combatants — attacker and defender — appear under their player name. Deleted or ruined accounts remain anonymous.
What does the public chronicle show? #
The public page shows the same five battle phases as your private report: naval skirmish, harbor defense, land battle, building destruction, and plunder — plus colonization where applicable. Readers see the same overview you see, just without your internal research and strategy detail numbers.
The display language of the page follows the reader's browser preferences — someone browsing in Spanish sees every label in Spanish. Your personal narrative, however, stays in the language you wrote it in (with a small note "written in [language]" so readers know what to expect).
Public chronicles can be shared directly via link.
Editing and withdrawing #
While the chronicle is still young (within the first few days after publishing), you can edit the commentary text — fix typos, add a memory.
After that, the text is locked. If you want to take the chronicle off the world, you can withdraw it at any time. It disappears immediately, and the direct link only shows a short notice that the chronicle is no longer available.
When someone reports a chronicle #
Beneath every chronicle is a Report button. Anyone who sees insults, doxxing, spam, or other violations can flag the chronicle for review. Review is handled by the team.
If your own chronicle is reported, it can briefly be set to paused while it is being reviewed. You keep access; it just stops being public for a moment. For harmless reports it returns online quickly.
Frequently asked questions #
- Who can publish a chronicle? Both participants of a battle — attacker OR defender. But there is only one chronicle per report. Whoever publishes first defines the canonical version. The other cannot publish a competing version on top.
- What happens to old reports? Reports that already lie further in the past can no longer be published. They have become history.
- How often can I publish chronicles? There is a gentle daily cap, so nobody can flood the Hall of Fame with dozens of chronicles in a day. Seasoned captains have more room than brand-new accounts.
- Can I write a chronicle in a different language from the UI? Yes. Just pick the writing language — the chronicle will be marked with a small notice "This chronicle is written in [language]" so readers know what to expect.
- Are chronicles ever deleted automatically? When a player account is deleted, all of that player's chronicles are removed along with the account. As long as the account stays active, chronicles remain for as long as you choose to keep them online.
Fortress battles as chronicles #
Battles for Corsair fortresses can be shared as chronicles too — both capturing a fortress and fighting to reclaim one.
Which reports can be shared as a chronicle? #
It is not just combat reports: spy reports and trade reports can be published as chronicles too — with their own direct link you can share with others. The share section appears at the bottom of each such report, just like for combat reports. Corsair fortress battles can be shared as well — both capturing a fortress and fighting to reclaim one.
